Mourning Becomes Lester

Can’t blame Jon Lester for not feeling wanted in Boston. The Red Sox never valued him as a free agent, Always considered him with the lens of their experience. It remains to be seen if they valued him enough.

Lester was Red Sox to his core, and it took real neglect to drive him away. Boston could have had him with a competitive bid, but they were too circumspect to make that bid. Sentiment had no role in this negotiation.

It looks like they will have to deal real talent to shape up the pitching staff, again pillaging the farm system for hired guns. Remember Hanley Ramirez for Josh Beckett?  Mookie Betts and Blake Swihart are in jeopardy. I can not see any wisdom in these moves.

Meanwhile Lester is in good hands with Joe Maddon and Theo Epstein.

Good luck, Jon. We knew you well, probably too well.
